Musical Monday: John Stewart Sings Badfinger

When I got this sketch, "Green Lantern: Mosaic" was in full swing, and I had recently watched The Magic Christian for the first time. Hearing the haunting Badfinger ballad "Carry On Till Tomorrow," it struck me how the lyrics could apply to John Stewart's situation. Cully Hamner obliged with this striking portrait.
In younger days, I told myself
My life would be my own,
And I'd leave the place
Where sunshine never shone.
For my life's too short for waiting,
When I see the setting sun,
Then I know again
That I must carry on...

Musical Monday: Denis Kitchen Sings KC & The Sunshine Band

Denis Kitchen is another artist to whom I gave free rein...and this delightful bit of randomness is what he came up with. Soundtrack: "I'm Your Boogie Man" by KC & The Sunshine Band.

Musical Monday: Mary Jane Watson Sings Mike Clifford

Here's a really obscure one: Way back when, I acquired an LP of the soundtrack to the 1968 movie Maryjane, which included a title song written by Mike Curb and performed by Mike Clifford. (Unfortunately, the song doesn't appear to be up on YouTube, so I can't share the actual tune.) As little-known as the song is, I thought it was pretty catchy...and a perfect fit for comics' most famous Mary Jane (Watson). Here's my Mary Jane/Maryjane sketch from Franchesco:

Since the lyrics are hard to read on this scan, here they are:
She's not a new girl in town
And you know she's been around.
You met her on a rainy day,
And she made the clouds go away,
Mary Jane, Mary Jane, Mary Jane.

Musical Monday: A Hernandez Kid Sings Little Feat

Last week, I shared Gilbert Hernandez' contribution to my musical sketchbook. Now, here's what Jaime Hernandez drew for me. Again, I gave him free rein to draw whatever he wanted, and he came up with this salute to Little Feat's "Teenage Nervous Breakdown."
