Musical Monday: Some...THING Sings The Coasters
One of the advantages I found to having such a loose sketchbook theme as "musical sketches" is the leeway it gives to indie creators. Let's face it, if your book is devoted to getting sketches of X-Men or Legion of Super-Heroes characters...chances are that Dan Clowes is not going to be too thrilled if you ask him to draw Wolverine. (Although he might have a giggle doing a Matter-Eater Lad sketch.)
When the Hernandez brothers made a local appearance, I explained my "musical sketchbook" to them, and basically said "Go to town, draw whatever you want." This is what Gilbert Hernandez came up with:
