30 Second Recap: Death of the New Gods
It's a new year, and it's time once again for Chris Sims' 30-Second Recap Contest! For my part, I've boiled down Death of the New Gods to its essentials...

It's a John Cleese reference.

Really, again? Didn't they do that New Genesis/Apocalips combo in the 90's Byrne New Gods? And it was dumb then, too.
Great job on that one, though. I'm...not a huge New Gods fan; unless Kirby or Simonson or hell, even Byrne are in on it. For some reason, though, Mattel is putting out a ton of New Gods-related toys. Barda's figure is due soon, I believe...
I want to see Dead Kirby vs. Starlin.
And I bet Kirby would win.
Ha! Good one!
Barda will be back. Then she'll stuff STARLIN into a refrigerator ...
I have long believed that if you sat by Jack Kirby's grave and listened patiently, you would hear great wisdom.

That last panel explains a great deal about some of Quesada and DiDio's decisions of late: They're not screwing up; they're creating an ALTERNATIVE ENERGY SOURCE.
Think about it. Mark Gruenwald is also no longer with us, and some of Marvel's recent moves probably have him spinning like Red Tornado. Why,the recent Tigra plots alone could be used to power New York City for a year.
I always thought Big Bard had commited suicide after reading how they treated her character in BIRDS OF PREY. But this is so much better.
Aren´t we all glad that comic companies kill comic characters that their writers can´t handle like THUNDERSTRIKE instead of just having them retire ?
I mean nobody does doom and gloom and dying gods as Jim Starlin ( with the possible exception of Walter Simonson - remember his great ORION series ? ) but was it really necessary to kill them all ? Especially Big Barda.
DC needs more strong and independent female characters not less.
