2006 In Memoriam

With the new year upon us, it's time to look back and reflect upon those we have lost in the past year. No, I'm not talking about real people...as important as it is to remember them, that's a bit too heavy for this blog. I'm talking about a memorial for the CHARACTERS who lost their lives in 2006.

In no particular order (except that, as in the Oscar memorial segment, I'll be saving the "biggest" for last), and undoubtedly leaving out many significant names (again, as the Oscars often do):

Pantha
Baby Wildebeest
Bushido
Namorita
Night Thrasher
Microbe
Cobalt Man
Coldheart
Speedfreek
Jade
Ragdoll I
Star Sapphire III (have I got the number right?)
Psycho-Pirate
Peacemaker
Baron Blitzkrieg
Charaxes
Major Disaster
Geist
Mongrel
Nightblade
Razorsharp
Ballistic
Alexander Luthor
Bantam
Goliath
Digitek

The Jester

So the Cobalt Man died... again?

I was really amused by the Avengers/Thunderbolts mini of a few years ago that established that CM -- like Francisco Franco -- was still dead. The Avengers determined that he was definitely dead, so that Iron Man could infiltrate the T-Bolts in his guise, using the old "oh I just escaped under cover of that explosion" excuse... the joke being that in the Marvel Universe this is a plausible occurance.

So when/ where did he really come back? And die?

Yep, Cobalt Man was one of the villains who was hanging out with Nitro (along with Speedfreek and Coldheart) in "Civil War" #1, and consequently got blown up with the rest of them.

No explanation for his return, apart from Mark Millar just plucking a disposable villain from obscurity before checking to see whether or not he'd already been disposed of.
